APOLOGIES received from P.C. Joanne Humphrey.
MINUTES of the last meeting on 1st September 2009 were agreed and signed.
POLICE REPORT One crime; - theft of a chain saw and drill from a farm at Newton between 16th October and 6th November.
Less antisocial driving in the village has been reported. Drivers of cars reported to the police have been contacted. The public is asked to continue to report any details of further nuisance. P.C. Humphrey carried out speed monitoring in Whittington in late July and found no vehicles driving over 30 mph at the time.
MATTERS ARISING. Work done on the highways - saplings cut back, pothole at Keerside filled in, 30mph sign replaced, repairs made to B6254 in several places. The survey on speeding at Newton was completed. During the week the average speed of vehicles in both directions was approx. 40mph. 2 North bound and 5 South bound vehicles exceeded the speed at which the Association of Chief Police Officers recommend enforcement. The survey of the accidents on B6254 is continuing and the Parish Council will receive the report.
Geraldine Smith MP will sign the Early Day Motion on the amendment to the Sustainable Communities Act.
CORRESPONDENCE. Various items had been circulated and were discussed. A request for support from N.W Air Ambulance resulted in the decision to donate £300.00.
An email about nuisance caused in Church St. by parked cars was shared with the police and Highways Dept. Any request for enforcement of parking restrictions or restrictions on width or weight of traffic would be unlikely to succeed. The local police issued a 'polite notice' in Wagtail and to nearby resident asking them to be considerate of the needs of others when parking.
The clerk informed councillors of the email received concerning a census rehearsal on 11th October. Whittington is within the area designated to receive questionnaires through the post. The aim is to monitor the response to the census to help preparation for the 2011 event. Clerk has passed the details on to Wagtail as requested.
