THE MINUTES of the last meeting were agreed and signed.
POLICE REPORT: PC Humphrey presented the report (attached) and gave more details of police activity on the anti social driving in the village. The drivers identified have been spoken to and in some cases warned. Both Lancashire and Cumbria forces are monitoring them.
Sheep harming; nobody at the meeting had heard of sheep being mutilated and killed in the way described. The police would welcome any information that might help to apprehend the perpetrators.
PC Humphrey announced Operation Julius, a campaign to keep crime at the low level it has reached in the area.
MATTERS ARISING: HGV sign at Biggins. This has been removed. The Council thanks all those residents who took the trouble to write to Cumbria County Council on the subject.
Foot/cycleway between the village and Kirkby Lonsdale - the clerk was informed that the County Council would not consider building a path on leased land. The correspondence was passed to the Senior Cycling Officer who may have funding in the future.
State of the highway - some patching has been done, clerk to enquire about the timing of more work.
CORRESPONDENCE: Various items received and circulated.
Arkholme Church of England Primary School's proposal to change the age range from 4-11 to 3-11 was discussed. The Council supported the proposal.
Questionnaire for the Overview and Scrutiny Task Group of the City Council was completed.
Material concerning proposed changes to the provision of mental health care in the district was passed to members for circulation.
FINANCIAL MATTERS: Current Acc: £2722.90. Bonus savings Acc: £2065.32
Cheque authorised since last meeting: No. 000347 £10.00 for local audit. Clerk's salary; £250.00 paid by SO.
Cheques signed at the meeting: No. 000348; £57.50 to BDO Stoy Hayward LLP for national audit. No.000349; £35.66 to Cllr. Hodgson for petrol and cord for the strimmer.
The annual return for the audit was presented to the council and was approved and accepted.
BDO Stoy Hayward recommend that Whittington Parish Council review the level of fidelity guarantee cover. The measures taken to safeguard money handled by the council was discussed and the clerk instructed to consult Allianz on the cost of increasing insurance cover. The matter to be on the agenda for the meeting in September.

OTHER MATTERS: Cllr. Hodgson reported the seats in good order.
Cllr. Lawson reported that Mr Harker has cleared grass and bushes from the sight railings nearest the county boundary preparatory to painting.
Cllr. Close reported that he has arranged a judge for the annual floral competition. Judging from the end of July into August.
