The spelling and manner of typesetting are exactly as they appear in the original documents. Items set with square brackets [ ] are comments added at the time of printing to indicate deficiencies in interpreting the original documents. The following Miscellaneous Entries appear in various parts of Volume I. of the Register. THE twentieth day of December' Anno Dnj 1650 being the third publicue day appoynted for the pishoners and Church- wardenes of Whittington for Meeting at the Church concerning the Disposseing and selling for the benefitt of the Church now in great decaye the formes and seats therin that was new sett upp by way of adition to the former Ansent seats without piudic to the owners of the said Ancient seats which seats are now sould by the order of the Rector Churchwardens and all the Pishoners was. then and there prsent unto these psones and for these herafter mentioned that is to say unto John Carter for his house in the upper end of the towne the whole form in the middle ile upon the north syd abuting to the hyest pue in consideracion he forgoeth two seats in the next forme between paid in hand to the Churchwardens three shillings by ye year And the next whole forme before it unto these three, viz.:--- Richard North Junr. of Docker as an addition to his house puchased of John Whitthead one third pte and also to Thomas Johnson the elder as an adition to his mansion house in Whittington another third pte and unto John Bland Junr. of Newton an adition to his mansion house there the other third pte in consideracion of fifteen shillings by them then paid in hand to the Churchwardenes. And also the one half of the form next above the pue towards the midle ile unto Thomas Johnson Junr. of Whittington for his mansion house there in consideracion that hee did forgoe the third pte of the form on the syd of the belfree and paid to the Churchwardnes five shillings. And also the other half of the form next above the pulpitt unto Thomas Hutton for his mansion house in Whittington in con- sideracion that hee did forgoe another third pte of the forme on the south syd of the belfree and paid in hand to the Church wardens five shillings and also unto Bryan Dicconson of Newton for his mansion house there the third seat in that form next beyond John Cort as an adition to his mansion house and paid to the Churchwardens three shillings fower pence. This above is allowed and consented unto by us the Chu wardens and pishioners whose names are here [edge of leaf torn off.] | ||

WHITTINGTON PARISH REGISTERS. second forme next above the second piller on the north syde of the midle ile which Mr. North did forgoe in consideracion that hee paid then in hand to the Church wardens the somme of three shillings and fouer pens. [At the top of a page which someone has numbered 21, is written the following:] "Whittington Rigester in ye hand of J. S. [? J ohn Statter] Clerk." [Immediately after the Baptisms of 1648 are written the following:] Whereas the Church of Whittington in the County of Lancaster is out of repayres as allso ye bells and clocke therein so as ye quindames for yt purpose will not extend to pay for ye same therefore know yee yt wee Richard Jackson Rector, Richard North ye younger of Docker John Bland ye younger of Newton William Bordrigge ye elder and Bryan Dawny of Whittington Churchwardens within ye said pish upon consideration thereof and for satisfaction of ye workmen for repaireinge of ye said Church have several lords dayes published ye sale of several vacant places within ye said Church and whosoever would give ye most mony should have them and whereas Lenard Jackson sonn of ye said Richard Jackson did after the first meeting after publication offer thirteene shillings fourepence for all ye place and portion of ground lying and being in ye east end of ye south ile of ye said Church from ye east windowe of ye said east end of ye aforesd south ile to extend into ye new erected pew or inclosed seat of Mr. Brabin of Whittington Hall afforesaid upon ye west to extend unto ye chancell of ye sd church upon ye north, And afterwards ye last of December being ye Lords day wee did againe publish ye same yt if any would give any more mony for ye said place then ye said thirteene shillings foure pence yt then they should have ye same but none offering any more thirefore know ye to whome these psents shall come yt wee ye said Rector & Churchwardens with ye consent of ye parlshoners wlthin ye said plsh for and in consideration of ye said some of thirteene shillings foure pence to us allreadie payed for ye use of ye said church have by this our psent writing conveyed and sould ye aforesd pcell of ground to ye only use and behoofe of ye said Leonard Jackson his heires & assignes for ever with liberty for him and them to erect a pew or seats therein & to enjoy ye same in pprijetie for ye better accomodation of their soules in hearing ye word of god receiueing ye sacrament and all other divine and religious duties of devotion in testimony whereof we have hereunto put our hands the nynteentb day of Jan. 1654. |
